What is a digital health ID card?

The digital health ID card is a digital identification card with the health record of the cardholder. This health ID card can be used to access and share the patient’s health record.

It is a unique 14-digit number (ABHA number) utilized to identify and verify individuals and access their health records across the healthcare system only with the consent of individuals.

What is NDHM?

NDHM (National Digital Health Mission) is also known as the Ayushman Bharat Health Mission. This mission has been announced by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India. This identification number is linked with NDHM.

How to Create Digital Health ID?

Digital health id can be created basically by 2 ways:

Official website of NDHM on desktop or mobile

Health facilities like public/private hospitals, community health centers etc.

Create Digital Health ID online

It can be created with the help of Aadhar or a driving license. You can choose any option as per your choice.

Please note that by driving license you can generate only an enrolment number. So, you will need to visit a registered health center to generate your health id card. So, it is suggestive to use an Aadhar number or mobile number to generate this id.

Via Aadhar card number

These are the steps to be followed:

Step 1: Open the official website of NDHM https://healthid.ndhm.gov.in/ and click on “create ABHA number.”

Step 2: Please Select “Using Aadhar.” Read the message carefully and click on Next.

Step 3: Enter Your Aadhar number, read the terms and conditions, select the option of “I agree,” and click on Next.

Step 4: Next step is Aadhar authentication by OTP, then Profile completion, followed by ABHA number creation. Your mobile number will also be asked to authenticate your ABHA number. The option of email id can be skipped at this moment. It can be added later also. You need to click on “Link ABHA address” now.

Step 5: Your Digital health id/ABHA Number is created now authenticated with your mobile number.

Step 6: Go to the home page of the official website of NDHM https://healthid.ndhm.gov.in/ and click on login.

Step 7: On the next page, login using mobile number, verify by OTP and after login, please click on “ABHA Number”

Step 8: Here, you will see your Digital Health id card and all the options to edit the information on the left side. You can download your card also.

Via driving license

The steps are

Step 1: Repeat step 1

Step 2: Select the option of “Using Driving Licence”.

Please note that by driving license, you can generate only enrolment numbers. You will need to visit registered health centre/ ABDM participating facility to get your identity verified by the facility staff to obtain the ABHA number. So, it is suggestive to use the aadhar number to generate this id.

Further steps are almost the same as discussed in previous sections.

Deactivation/Deletion of card

You can also deactivate/delete this card after login to your account from the options available on the left panel, indicated in the previous image.
